I have a plethora of wonderful Vermont State Park memories. My first childhood memory was camping at Molly Stark State Park with my family when I was four in 1980. The musty smell of a canvas wall tent brings me right back to that impactful experience. As a child I cried every time we had to head home from camping (okay, I still tear up today).
The photo I shared was my daughter Alice’s first camping trip, which was at Brighton State Park when she was six months old. She is pictured with her cousin, Bryce Roy, who was 11 months old at the time. We went camping with my brother, Luc Roy, who lives in Western Maine and we met in the middle for camping, swimming, hiking, paddling, and biking adventures together at Brighton.
I have visited every Vermont state park (I work for state parks) and they are all special in their own way, but there are some that are near and dear to my heart. My early camping experiences set me on a path to do the meaningful work I do today, and I hope the same for my daughter and my nephew too! And all our other young visitors making these life changing memories across our beautiful state every day.
