Nate McKeen

Weathersfield

Growing up in Maine on the family farm located at the foothills of the White Mountains is what led to Nate's life long connection to the natural world and New England's working lands. Nate holds a forestry degree from the University of Maine and his career has spanned various roles in parks and public land management. Before settling in Vermont, he worked for Connecticut State Parks, led a Conservation Corps Crew, fought wildland fires in Montana, Wyoming, and Utah, and led Environmental Education and Agroforestry projects in West Africa. Nate currently serves as Director of Vermont State Parks. Along the way he has served in various roles with the Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation (FPR) and also worked at Jay Peak Ski Resort and the Shelburne Museum. Nate's time in Vermont has been characterized by a commitment to public service and to fostering connections to the natural world.

Working so closely with VPF is a highlight for Nate in his role as Parks Director. He is inspired by the transformative impact VPF has had on Vermont State Parks and the fantastic work the foundation is achieving to make Vermont's incredible park system even better and available for everyone.

Nate enjoys spending time on his homestead in Weathersfield, where he shares adventures with his wife, two daughters, and a collection of animals, extended family and neighbors. Maple sugaring and skiing are two of his passions that he finds get in the way of eachother. When he finds time he enjoys reading and exploring in the woods.
